Banana Splint
March 2nd - March 16th 2018
The Visual and Dramatic Arts (VADA) Department at Rice, Rice Strategic Initiatives, and CENHS are proud to sponsor ~Banana Splint~
"Banana Splint" is an exhibition curated by Heather Wright and Jessica Fuquay featuring the work of local artists, Britney Anele, Amiri Boykin, and Iva Kinnaird, alongside that of Rice students, Elizabeth Denton, Matthew Lee, Cindy Nguyen, and Huidi Xiang.
The exhibition will be open from 7-10pm, and feature music from local DJs: DJ Keva and Come Bien as well as plenty of food and drinks. Beer will also be provided to those of age thanks to a generous donation by 8th Wonder Brewery.
The Solar Studios are an experimental pop-up space designed to engage the public through its accessibility and sustainable design. **The units are located at the corner of Alumni Dr. and College Way in front of South Servery. Come support the arts, not only at Rice, but in our Houston community!

Outside In Upside Down:
Container Obscura Experiments by Tish Stringer
Tish Stringer turns the world on its head in a shipping container at the Solar Studios at Rice University with ongoing camera obscura experiments through the month of February. Visitors into this dark room view the outside world projected upside down using the simple magic of light.
On view daily before sundown.
Another container is transformed into a reading room featuring books about camera obscuras, the history of photography and cinema, and various creative techniques using light and shadows.
Once Again and Then Some More:
Finally, in the evenings, viewers will have the opportunity to play with their own shadows on the sides of the containers. Lina Dib and Taylor Knapps’ recent experiment is an interactive piece that allows viewers to play with their former self. Delayed shadows accompany real-time silhouettes in a dance between past and present.

Could Be Loved
October - November, 2017
"Could Be Loved" is an exhibition of the cute and the crude curated by Heather Wright and Jessica Fuquey. The exhibition features the work of local artist, Lindsea Varisco, alongside that of Rice student, Huidi Xiang. Both artists have been working with disparate ideas behind their sculptures while contributing to Houston’s avant garde art scene. The exhibit also features visual projections by S. Rodriguez.

Making Alongside Coral Reefs course Exhibit

Students of ENST 477 have their final project exhibition, where the culmination of students' semester-long work is showcased. Students have the choice to work in a team or individually to develop a project that engages audiences in coral reef ecology and the future of coral reefs around the world. Like There is No Tomorrow

Fossilized Houston presents “Like There is No Tomorrow”, a series of interactive installations at Rice University’s solar power JuiceBOX containers. The exhibit examines species decline in the Anthropocene through the works of local Houston artists. On view April 13th – 23rd, hours 7-10 PM Thursdays – Sundays.
